Teen Driver/Joshua's Law Class

The Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Hall County School District and Hall County Government, offers the Teen Driver/Joshua's Law course to provide students with the 30 hours of classroom instruction required for driver’s license eligibility at age 16 in Georgia.

Headed up by the School Resource Officers at the Sheriff's Office, deputies cover a lot of ground during the summer, typically offering six sessions of the course. Each one of those (a new set of students each time) consists of classes from Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m.

While the coursework is pretty intense, students and teachers do have some moments of fun as demonstrated by the time in parking lots with the golf cart and some basic vehicle maintenance training.  The class does not include any official behind-the-wheel time.

Students must be 15 or 16-years-old at the time of class and have a learner’s permit.  Anyone with a driver’s license, Joshua’s Law certificate or who doesn’t meet the age restriction is not eligible to take the course.

The class is extremely popular, and slots fill up quickly when ONLINE REGISTRATION begins at annually at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 1.
