VIN Verification

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office provides VIN verification at sheriff’s office headquarters in Gainesville and by appointment with deputies in the field.

VIN verification is required in Georgia in order to register a vehicle that does not have a current and valid title. During the inspection, a deputy will verify details pertaining to your vehicle to confirm its VIN.

A new vehicle inspection for a VIN confirmation requires proof of ownership and proof of insurance documents. If you do not have the title of your vehicle, you will be required to offer additional supporting paperwork to prove ownership. We recommend you have any or all of the following available:

  • Bill of sale

  • Tag and registration details, even if you do not have original copies

  • Insurance documentation for this specific vehicle

  • Copy of the current or a previous title

  • Any other paperwork that can prove your ownership of the vehicle

Drop-in VIN Verification is available during normal business hours:

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters

2859 Browns Bridge Road

Gainesville, Ga. 30504

Monday – Friday     8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

If you are unable to lawfully drive or transport your vehicle to headquarters, you may schedule a deputy to conduct the verification at your location by calling (770) 718-3281 during normal business hours.

Deputies ask that you print a blank form T-22B (link below) and provide it to the deputy performing the verification. Do not fill out portions of the form ahead of time.
